Wellness Warrior: Jenna Hiller
I asked: How do you deal with feelings of not being enough?
SHE ANSWERED: When I personally don’t feel good enough, it’s because I think I’ve got something to prove. I’ve put a condition on my worth. I’m measuring my value and (in my eyes) I’m not measuring up! Sound familiar?
When this happens, I ask myself: “what am I measuring myself with? Who am I trying to please?”. It could be grades, victories, social media likes, friends, weight, or salary. These are all ways we (we’re never alone) look outside of ourself to prove that we’re good enough. Radical honesty: I’ve personally experienced seeking validation through all of the above! Spoiler alert: no fun. But I did learn from each of those experiences.
The truth is, I learned, is that nothing, absolutely nothing, you do can change your enough-ness because there’s a HUGE difference in the things you DO and who you ARE.
You ARE inherently valuable.
You ARE a miracle.
You ARE pure love.
You ARE enough.
The things you do (like eat oreos, get pissed at your parents, gain weight, lose weight, make money, reach fame, live on the streets, break someone’s heart) do not change who you ARE because they are choices. They are reactions. They are situational, circumstantial. They are your responsibility, yes, but they can never change your fundamental worth.
Can you see the difference? Things will happen to you in life, you will do many good and many less than good things… but you’re still YOU. Whether you eat a kale salad or an entire pint of ice-cream… you’re still you. Whether you live in Kansas or in the South of France…. you’re still you. Whether you earn $30K a year or $200K a year…. you’re still you.
Throughout my life I’ve had the privilege of watching myself and other people accomplish their dreams – to actually live the situations that they thought would make them feel “enough”. You know what we realized when we reached our biggest goal…. “Whoa, I’m still me.” Or, as I like to say, “You take YOU with you, wherever you go”.
That’s why I am so committed to helping women uncover and own their INHERENT value and internal wisdom through self-love: because you’re already enough. You’re already a miracle. You’re already IT! Brilliant. Powerful. You are life itself. You don’t need anything else to be happy and love your life.
You can be free TODAY because there is nothing wrong with you. You have everything you need, you lack nothing.
So, how do we get ourselves to snap out of the illusion that we’re not enough? Here are a few ways to start:
- Affirm it! Thoughts are just thoughts (i.e., they are NOT who you ARE). So if you’re thoughts are keeping you down, change them. Rewire your mind with affirmations. Say them until you believe them!
- Take care (self-care)! Start treating yourself like the miracle you are. I don’t care what you DID in your past, it doesn’t change who you ARE. You deserve health. You deserve to be adored. You deserve a candle lit dinner, flowers, kind words, love and compassion… first and foremost from yourself.
- Choose love! As you walk down the street today, silently send love to those who cross your path. Think of your family members or someone you love, despite their imperfections. Practice the highest form of love – unconditional (just like your worth!).
By choosing to love others and accept them as enough as they are, you will find a greater sense of compassion for yourself.
